A 12-month course in self-knowledge and personal transformation for people studying or working in the helping professions.
Focus on how we need to be — not only what we do.
GCA Transformational Counselling (GCATC) is a 12-month course designed to augment the training of those who are studying or working in the helping professions. This course facilitates an extensive exploration into self-knowledge and personal transformation. Each module is presented over a 4-week teaching period in a 12-month period.
Most courses in the helping professions focus on what it is that we do – whether we are counsellors, therapists, nurses or anyone else working with people. The primary training on offer tends to focus on specific skills training and on what we do. This is obviously essential knowledge to enter a profession. The various skills and techniques required to do the job are clearly important foundational elements to training. Another essential component to training in any interpersonal field, is to undergo thorough self-discovery. Ethical practice must include an ongoing thirst for integrity and authenticity as the practitioner, and consider our role in the work, who we are and how we bring ourselves to the work.
GCAT holds that at the essence of our existence, our humanity and our more transcendent nature, we are always able to grow and change. As such it is prudent to be engaging in active ongoing self-exploration. This course is designed to facilitate exploration into the fundamentals of self-enquiry with central questions such as Who am I as a person, what are my beliefs, how does this influence my work, how does my work impact me.
The distinctive feature of training here at GCA Transformational Counselling is that we focus on HOW we need to be to do the work, and do it well. GCATC acknowledges that the work we do has impacts upon us, that this work takes place in a relational context, and that all of our relational patterning is influenced by the relationship we have with our own selves, with our own psyche, our values, and many other aspects of self which are seldom clearly considered or examined in foundational training. Training with GCAT is aimed at improving both integrity of practice and also sustainability and longevity of career. This course is designed as an extensive exploration into self-knowledge and personal transformation. The modules offered may be undergone as a stand-alone course, or as an adjunct to other training in the helping professions.
