Who We Are and What We Do

If you have not yet studied with us, you may not already know that the Global Coaching Academy has been creating and delivering heart-based training programmes since 2004.

We began as a very small Registered Training Organisation in Perth offering a Certificate of Mentoring and Coaching. This was in response to people who were looking for a meaningful course and qualification that wasn't all about 'rah rah' and money making, rather about wanting to make a difference and support others to become the best versions of themselves. 17 years later, GCA is delivering a Diploma of Mentoring, Coaching and Interpersonal Facilitation, as a fully internationally recognised ICF accredited coach training program to participants in United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, Asia and New Zealand.

Heartfelt updates from our graduates

Meet Patti McBain

For forty years I taught meditation and yoga with one organisation. This had merit and provided surety. Creating a business and trainings has stretched me!   Considering the industry, planning with colleagues, and then making decisions to set up structures, training curriculum and competencies meant I had to apply what I learned at the GCA to myself first then the business and trainings. I chose to turn up again and again to create something new.

I graduated GCA training in 2009. Initially, I wasn’t sure how I would apply what I had learned. It unfolded from teaching in my home, to being invited into a friend’s medical practice to teach to taking a lease on my own studio. I launched my yoga and meditation teacher training programs in this space. After three years I took another deep breath and moved into an upgraded studio. Today, I operate Refresh Yoga from this space and continue to run classes and trainings, have a team of teachers and professionals and many people enjoy and benefit from what we offer.

Through what I learned at GCA, the judgment free zone is what I’ve practised for myself foremost. Lots of decisions that seemed like a good idea turned out to be mistakes to learn and grow. Those words from Belinda trust yourself and trust your client have applied repeatedly. I’ve tasked up again and again.

Newsflash!!!

Patti offers Meditation Facilitation Training (Face to Face & via Zoom)

About Patti

She and her school friend would jump in the back seat of her brother's Holden each week with their padded mats in back. Patti had already learned meditation two years earlier. Yoga and meditation have been a lifelong practise and profession. Currently, Patti owns Refresh Yoga, sits on the Board of Meditation Australia, and enjoys driving electric and her membership of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association.

 A Short Story of Courage...

"The fall felt heavy. One day I was head of Department in a large non-for-profit organisation in central London, in charge of a number of residential disability services that had lots of staff and clients, to the next being a stay-at-home mother of three young children in Perth WA. I went from earning money, being recognised for my work, someone listening to me and implementing my suggestions, being part of something bigger and leading change to not earning any money, wiping the kitchen bench down 100 times a day, very little recognition, no one listening to me, feeling lonely and isolated. The fall felt heavy.

Somewhere in the middle of feeling completely alone, I realised something – I wasn’t valuing myself.

Looking outside of myself for validation felt great when I had it and miserable when I didn’t. Learning to build internally driven self-worth became a key factor to healing the rift and completing the GCA coaching course became a big part of this as I embraced the gift of who I am. I no longer saw my experience through the eyes of “falling heavily” but as an opportunity to find  the gifts. I look back and appreciate my journey, the rough with the smooth and am grateful for the opportunity that coaching provides to give back and support others in their unique journey."

Myth busters...

Exploring a new paradigm of Coaching, Mentoring and Interpersonal Facilitation, what it is and what it isn’t, from the perspective of GCA heart based philosophy and our graduates.

One of the greatest rewards of being a coach is being a myth buster, encouraging clients to notice the beliefs and stories they are telling themselves that are holding them back, and choosing something new.

A recent client of mine spoke extensively about this being an “in-between time” for her that she hated.  She was angry and frustrated that her life was on hold because of family obligations.

I was inspired to ask, “What is it about this in-between time that you’re grateful for?” She stopped in her tracks and fell silent.  It had never occurred to her that she could be grateful for the in-between and make changes in her life right now that brought her fulfillment and joy.  A simple question asked with kindness and non-judgment can be a game changer.

Winston Churchill was an extraordinary myth buster.  The people of England were losing hope and the Will to fight for democracy when he became Prime Minister.  His ability to inspire world leaders, local adversaries, the men and women fighting for land and country and the ordinary civilians facing air raids and shortages is legendary.

We are all myth busters.  Every time we notice how we talk to ourselves, the words we use that negate our beauty and greatness and choose love, we bust a myth that we thought was true and open the door to transformation.  That’s empowering – creating change from the inside out with courage like Churchill and with gratitude like my client.
